PA12 and PA66 Material Performance Comparison

Time:2025-06-04     Views:16     Source:PRIME UNION PLASTIC

PA12 (polyamide 12) is a high-performance engineering plastic. Compared to the commonly used nylon PA6/PA66 materials, PA12 exhibits significant advantages in terms of performance. Let's take a brief look at its key properties:

1. Water Absorption: PA66 nylon has relatively high water absorption, and its dimensional stability is significantly affected by environmental humidity. In contrast, PA12 has low water absorption, typically around 0.5%, and maintains excellent dimensional stability;

2. Chemical Resistance: Nylon has average chemical resistance and limited tolerance to certain organic solvents and acids/alkalis. In contrast, PA12 exhibits excellent resistance to a wide range of chemicals (including oils, fuels, and solvents), though it lacks resistance to strong oxidizing acids;

3. Mechanical properties: Nylon PA66 has good tensile strength and wear resistance, but its toughness may be insufficient at low temperatures. In contrast, PA12 has better toughness, with tensile strength comparable to ordinary nylon, and it maintains excellent mechanical properties even in humid environments;

4. Temperature resistance: Nylon PA66 has average temperature resistance with a narrow long-term operating temperature range, while PA12 maintains performance within a temperature range of -50°C to 120°C and exhibits good thermal stability;

5. Processing performance: Nylon PA66 has good processing performance but high crystallinity with a narrow processing temperature range, while PA12 has good flowability, is easy to process, and has a wide processing temperature range;

6. Density: Nylon PA66 has a relatively high density, with a density of approximately 1.14 g/cm³. In contrast, PA12 has a lower density, ranging from 1.01 to 1.03 g/cm³, which helps reduce the weight of the finished product;

PA6 and PA66 nylon are widely used in textiles, machinery, and automotive industries. PA12 has superior performance but is more expensive, commonly used in automotive fuel lines, pneumatic systems, medical devices, and 3D printing, suitable for applications requiring high chemical resistance, dimensional stability, and low-temperature toughness.

        QINGDAO PRIME UNION TRADE has been acting as the agent of Mitsubishi raw materials since 2002. It has offices in Zibo and Qingdao, with sales offices and warehouses. The raw materials are in sufficient stock and can be shipped at any time. The company is registered in Qingdao Free Trade Zone and has the right to import and export. It can carry out re-export trade, customs manual trade --customs supervision, and general trade in US dollars in the zone. At the same time, our brother company Qingdao Meitai Plastic is a modification plant with 16 years of experience, which can provide one-stop services for plastic modification, dyeing, and injection molding.
